Residential Environmental Services

About

At Salcey protecting the environment is a priority and we work continuously to progress our initiatives. We offer our residential clients a range of environmental services so that together we are preserving and caring for our surroundings.

From a comprehensive green waste recycling policy to the protection of habitat and ecology and mulching for use in other industries, we are environmentally proactive throughout our operations wherever possible.

Ecology Surveys & Reports

Countryside protection legislation and the European Habitats Directive has made it necessary for homeowners, and commercial property owners, to ensure that any works they carry out on their land do not damage habitats for protected species.

Our full suite of ecological services include Extended Phase 1 Habitat Surveys, Ecological Supervision for specialist clearance works, Ecological Assessments and Precautionary Method Of Works statements, Species Specific Surveys, Ecological Impact Assessments and all relevant mitigation works.

Recycling - Nothing Goes to Waste

At Salcey Waste Management and the efficient use of resources is a high priority. We operate a comprehensive recycling process and recycle 100% of the Green waste produced from services delivered for our clients. This material is processed into mulches for utilisation in the landscaping industry and Biomass for electricity production.

Mulching

Mulching is a simple and effective way of maintaining plant health, improving growth and enhancing vitality. Organic mulches composed of wood chips, bark, leaves and compost are all suitable mulches for woody and herbaceous landscape plants.

Mulches provide many benefits including:

  • Laying mulch to a depth of between 2 - 4 inches is an effective weed suppressant
  • Conserves water during hot periods and moderates soil temperature during hot and cold periods
  • Eliminates competition between tree roots and grass or other ground covering plants
  • Prevents rainfall crusting the topsoil which hinders the germination of seedlings
  • Soil fertilisation

Our mulch is available in a number of grades, depending on the usage, and we can advise you on the type and quantity needed.

We deliver our mulches to Northampton, Milton Keynes, Bedford and surrounding areas. Delivery of bulk products can be arranged.

“We have been using Salcey’s tree mulch as a substitute for black peat and have been very satisfied with its quality and appearance. We have also used it successfully as a natural soil conditioner. We would recommend this eco-friendly product to anyone who is concerned about preserving the environment”

Dave Coxon, T C Landscapes

“We wouldn’t be without Salcey’s mulch. It’s delivered when and where we want it, the quality is superb and our garden has really benefited. Best of all it suppresses the weeds making it easier for us to maintain! Would recommend to anyone who enjoys their garden.” - Mr Smith, Bucks

Bark Chips

Our Bark Chips are tested to British Standard EN117 and 1998 Fire Certification British Standard 4790 and are suitable for children’s play areas. Our 100% natural, pine (play grade) bark chips are clean, easy to spread and maintain, and provides all-year play safety which protects your children in an environmentally friendly way.

Biomass

Biomass, a renewable energy source, is biological material derived from living, or recently living organisms, such as wood waste. At Salcey we recycle woodchip which is sent to energy production centers to be converted into electricity.

“Salcey group have supplied us with large quantities of good quality bark at a reasonable price for the past three years. They have always delivered on time and have managed to squeeze in extra deliveries as we have needed them. Their drivers have always been helpful and careful to avoid any damage. I would have no problems in ordering from them in the future.”
